Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your support. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading up on what we did while in Pass Christian, Mississippi. It was an extremely rewarding experience and the group is looking forward to growing our new found friendships, as well as continuing God’s work.
Thank You…

On the road again…
February 19th, 2010Just outside Nashville…been on the road about 10 hours…the drive home always seems longer than the drive there…
A little over 200 miles to go tonight – stopping in Carrollton, KY for the night…more to come from the road – over & out!
Whistle While You Work
February 18th, 2010Thursday was back to school for the Boys & Girls Club kids, which gave the Katrina group a half day break…or so we thought. God had his own plan, however, for our time.
The ladies who attended the Gulf Port Mardi Gras parade had a divine encounter with a grandma from Pass Christian. Miss Marie lost her house in the storm and has been living in a slightly unfinished house for several years. She had been waiting for assistance from Mission on the Bay. As it turns out, what some may call a random meeting was God’s hand at work. We spent the first half of Thursday painting & cleaning for Miss Marie. It was very rewarding and we found Miss Marie to be an amazing lady. She shared stories & pictures of her life before & after Katrina. Thus, not only was this educational but interesting as well.
We wrapped up at Miss Marie’s & headed to the boy’s & girl’s club to greet the kids after school. We enjoyed our last few hours sharing God’s love with these kids & found it hard to say good bye. It was then time to pack up & organize the cars for the looong ride home…
Mardi Gras!
February 16th, 2010Happy Mardi Gras from the Katrina 2010 group!
Today was a free day for the team and we were given several options for the day. Several people headed off to Gulf Port to check out the parade, some visited with folks we’ve helped in past years, and a few ventured down to New Orleans. It was a great day of bonding and of strengthening friendships.
Tomorrow we’ll be back at the Boys & Girls Club…hoping to get some pics up for ya’ll to see the work we’re doing with these kids!
Monday’s Mission
February 15th, 2010The team was up bright and early today! By 7am breakfast was over & we were on our way to the Boys & Girls Club of Pass Christian. We spent the day sharing God’s love with about 50 kids – we made Mardi Gras masks, danced, decorated & enjoyed cupcakes, and had our own parade around the parking lot. As we reflected on the day, all agreed that God was present – in the smiles of the children, the dedication of the Boys & Girls Club staff & in the relationships quickly formed between us & the children. They are very anxious to see us again on Wednesday!
While driving back to camp, several folks commented on how much still needs done – we passed front porch steps that are now steps to nowhere, as the rest of the house is gone; ocean front property is bare & weeds are beginning to take over the emptiness where houses once stood; many homes & buildings have been abandoned and are a haunting reminder of the devastation. Yes, much help is still needed…
Worship was peaceful tonight. We were provided access to a small private cabin and spent a couple hours reflecting on the day, worshipping with song and in prayer.
And now it’s lights out! Goodnight & God Bless from Mississippi!
It’s Carnival Season!
February 14th, 2010We made it! We are wrapping up a late lunch at Trapani’s in Bay St Louis, MS and learning more about the history & traditions of Carnival Season / Mardi Gras. Trapani’s owner & crew catch the seafood locally, providing guests with the freshest of fresh seafood. After eating, we passed around a King Cake – Google the history / story of the cake…it’s pretty interesting! Ed O’Shea & Pat Roddy had the hidden baby in their slice. Congrats to our 2 ‘kings of the day!’
Off to check in at the camp!
(Did I mention it’s 65 & sunny…)
Sunday’s Sunshine
February 14th, 2010Good morning friends & family! We are in sunny (but chilly) Mississippi. We rolled into the hotel around 1am (2am EST) and we all crashed pretty fast. We’re grabbing breakfast at the hotel and heading back out on the road – aprx 1 1/2 hours drive to a First Baptist church, then on to Pass Christian.
Thanks again for keeping us in your prayers!
Sweet Home Alabama
February 13th, 2010Where the skies are so blue – unless you’re drivung through at night! We made it through OH, KY, & TN…crossed into AL about 30 min ago, and yes, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ was played across the walkie talkies as we crossed the state line. We just stopped for a bite to eat – table for 13 is interesting on Valentine’s Day weekend!
We estimate between 3 – 4 hours until we get to the hotel, which is just across the MS border. It’s been a long day, but the conversations have been great and new friendships are being formed.
Well, food just came…ya’ll check back later for an update from MS!
Hello from KY
February 13th, 20108 hours, 3 stops & 2 detours into our drive…coming up on the TN state line soon. ETA of getting to the hotel tonight is 11:30. The highlight of the trip thus far is the use of walkie talkies between cars. Snow piles are getting smaller & smaller, the sun is shining bright & everyone is in good spirits…thanks for keeping us in your prayers!
More to come from the road…over and out!
